Types of Ceremony
Most couples ask us to organise Anglican or Catholic ceremonies, although we are always happy to organise other types of celebrations, including secular and same sex ceremonies. Under Spanish law, couples who are not resident in Spain have to do the legal side of their marriage in their home country.
Anglican Weddings
The Anglican ceremony is a service of blessing, identical to an Anglican wedding ceremony in the UK, the only difference being that you do not sign the legal register at the end of the service. The civil marriage has to take place in your home country prior to coming to Mallorca. The ceremony in Mallorca blessing can be performed by an English vicar and can take place in a church or another location, such as the reception venue. We find that couples usually prefer to do the civil side of the marriage quietly and informally a few days before coming to Mallorca, leaving them free to devote their time, enthusiasm and budget to the wedding celebrations here on the island.
Catholic Weddings
Non-residents of Spain are able to celebrate a Catholic wedding here as long as certain criteria are met. These are:
- One or both of you must have been baptised in the Catholic faith.
- Neither of you has been divorced.
The paperwork is straightforward but can take up to five months to process. It is instigated in your home country with your local priest and then passed to Mallorca where we can complete the administration for you. The ceremony has to take place in a church and can be performed by an English-speaking priest. You will need to legalise the wedding in your home country on your return.
Civil Ceremonies
Civil weddings are possible for couples who have been resident in Spain for more than 2 years. Contact us for more information.
